Beyond the Bridges of the Tweed

Dr. Jim Lyon

9th November 2011

President, Murray Dickson, welcomed members and friends of the Old Gala Club to the meeting in the Upper Volunteer Hall on 9th November 2011.

The speaker was Dr. Jim Lyon, a retired Civil Engineer, who gave an illustrated talk entitled “Beyond the Bridges of the Tweed”.

In an interesting and informative talk Jim took us on a journey on the Tweed from its source at Tweed’s Well to the sea at Berwick.

The bridges selected by Jim had stories about their construction, the engineers who worked on them and local worthies who had connections with the bridges.

After questions Norman Houldsworth gave the vote of thanks.
