The Galashiels Local History Society.
Established 1948 Charity No SC034141
The Old Gala Club was formed in 1948 and our Internet presence was made in 2003.
There is a growing interest in our monthly (Wednesday)
winter lectures in the Volunteer Hall, St Johns Street, TD1 3JX are attended by over 100 members and guests, and our ever popular
"Opening Night" in September, which includes a PowerPoint presentation of photographs from our collection, together with a display
of artefacts, documents, maps and photo albums, usually attracts around 200.
We do, of course, much more than simply collect photographs.
The club also has a burgeoning museum collection, which is recognised by the Museum Service for Scotland and the Scottish Executive
as an important local collection. We appeal to the public to donate photographs and artefacts, or loan to the Old Gala Club for copying,
photographic material of any age with a local flavour.
The maintenance of our collection relies solely upon voluntary efforts
by club members in the various group activities, including photographic, document, map and cataloguing groups, meeting in our access
friendly 1000sq.ft. unit at Langlee Workshops, Marigold Drive, TD12LP.
We welcome anyone interested in history to join our club,
and if you are prepared to join one of our activity groups so much the better.
