Galashiels Local History Association,
the Old Gala Club, has been awarded £200 by the BT Community Champions Award
Scheme.
BT employees across the UK who are
actively involved in community work in their free time are able to apply for
funding for their group or organisation through the scheme.
A panel of judges allocated grants to a
cross section of groups who illustrated how the award would make a difference to
their group and benefit their local community. The Old Gala Club was among the
hundreds that enter the scheme and impressed the judges with how they would use
their grant.
The club plans to use their £200
towards the purchase of a microphone system. This system would be used by
visiting speakers and on the occasions the club takes illustrated talks out into
the community.
Murray Dickson, Vice President of the
Old Gala Club applied for the award on behalf of the group.

Donation from Lloyds TSB
The Old Gala Club - Galashiels and District Local
History Association - are delighted to have received £500 from ‘Lloyds TSB
Foundation for Scotland Matched Giving Scheme’. This scheme supports staff
employed by Lloyds TSB who either fund raise or give their time out with working
hours to help registered charities.
Helen Elliott employed in Galashiels Branch of Lloyds
TSB applied to the foundation for the 100 hours, which she gives annually to the
Old Gala Club in her role as Secretary. The foundation generously donated £5
for each hour. This donation will be a welcome boost to club funds.
