Exhibition Father Creanor from the Church Of Our Lady & St Andrew opened the "Old Gala Club Goes to Church" exhibition in Old Gala House on Friday 30th March. Addressing a full room of invited guests, Father Creanor said he was also a historian and took great interest in the items on display. He said in all the towns he has served, this is the first time he has seen such cooperation from all churches in the town in giving contributions and help to enable the club put on such a wonderful exhibition. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the loan from Old Parish & St Paul’s church of rarely seen old communion silver and pewter cups, plates and jugs, some dating from 1719 and gifted by Hugh Scott of Gala. The Museum room is filled with old photographs, information and artefacts showing the history of Galashiels Churches past and present, and includes three recently discovered large Band of Hope banners and a portable French harmonium. The club Vice President Murray Dickson thanked all churches, committee and others in the town for their help over the four months it took to prepare the displays. He indicated that next year "Old Gala Club Goes on Holiday". Reported by RMcK.
